Giuseppe Verdi died on January 27, 1901, in Milan, Italy.  He was 87 when he died.

During his lifetime he completed 25 operas. Even today Verdi continues to be regarded as one of the greatest composers in history.  His works have  been performed more than any other performer's worldwide.  He will always be remembered.

Verdi suffered from a terrible stroke.  The funeral procession was led by Arturo Toscanini, who was singing a chorus from the third act of the opera 'Nabucco'.  Tens of thousands of people lined the black-draped streets while singing along softly and paying their last respects to the man who dominated the Italian musical era for half a century, the great Giuseppe Verdi.
